Hit-and-Run Laws in Las Vegas, Nevada

Pursuant to Nevada law, all drivers have the duty to stop and/or immediately return to the scene of an auto accident that they have been involved in, regardless of whether or not they are responsible for the crash. They also have the duty to exchange insurance information with any motorist, bicyclist, or pedestrian involved in the accident.

The driver(s) should also file an accident report with local authorities. Moreover, drivers must notify law enforcement and file an accident report for any crash resulting in an injury, death, or property damage in excess of $750.00. Failure to do so can result in a one-year suspension of driving privileges.

In most cases, committing a non-injury hit-and-run is punishable as a misdemeanor offense in the State of Nevada. If convicted, it can result in six points on a drivers license alongside a fine of up to $1,000 and potential jail time.

Conversely, if the hit-and-run involves an injury or death, a conviction can result in a felony, revocation of a drivers license, a jail sentence of up to 20 years in prison, and a $5,000.00 fine.
