Hit and Run Statistics in Nevada

Hit and run accidents are a serious problem in many cities, including Las Vegas. A hit and run accident is defined as a collision between two or more vehicles, or a vehicle and a pedestrian or bicyclist, where the driver who caused the accident leaves the scene without stopping to exchange information or provide assistance.

According to a report from the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT), there were a total of 3,198 hit and run crashes in the state of Nevada in 2019. Of these, 1,299 occurred in Clark County, where Las Vegas is located. This means that hit and run accidents accounted for approximately 16% of all crashes in Clark County that year.

Hit and run accidents can have serious consequences, both for the victims and the drivers who leave the scene. In many cases, victims may be left with injuries or property damage, and may struggle to receive compensation if the driver who caused the accident cannot be identified. Drivers who leave the scene of an accident may face criminal charges, including fines, license suspension or revocation, and even jail time.

To address the issue of hit and run accidents, Las Vegas and other cities have implemented a variety of measures, including increased police patrols and public education campaigns. For example, the City of Las Vegas has launched a “Stay Put for What Matters” campaign, which encourages drivers to stay at the scene of an accident and provide assistance to those who may be injured.
